English Studies As Archive And As Prospecting
(80 Years of English Studies in Zagreb)
Perhaps the most exciting problem that English studies are facing today is coming to terms with the complexities of knowledge produced and dominated by the English speaking worlds in the past two and a half centuries. While this calls for a nuanced approach to the questions of archive and cultural memory, as implicated in it is the probing of the futures that this knowledge fuels or envisions. Our conference welcomes a critical discussion of this issue, not least where it touches on the future of English studies themselves and the ways in which the humanities embedded in them depend on the encounter with other disciplines and agendas. The Department of English, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, on the occasion of its 80th anniversary invites papers encompassing but not limited to the following areas of interest:
– English Literary Histories
– Critical Theory
– American Studies
